Bindrunes and Runic Scripts
As soon as possible, I’m going to upload a file of the runes so people can actually see what I’m talking about. Until then, the written names will have to do. My spell check is going to go wild…
I’ve read that bindrunes and scripts always work best if you make them yourself, so I’m not going to post any premade ones here. If I do come across one that’s really useful, I’ll post it in my main blog. Instead, I’m going to explain what each thing is and list which runes work best for each kind of effect.
Bindrunes
Bindrunes are symbols made up of layering several runes. You can reverse them, tilt them, and put them upside down if you want – it shouldn’t change the meaning unless you want it to. They’re convenient for smaller spaces and work for ‘jewelry’ that everyone can see. They also give me the feel of a more compact spell, as opposed to a step by step process, but they should work for both.
Runic Scripts
Basically, scripts are lines of runes, like a bind rune deconstructed. Just find the runes that you feel that you need, and put them in an effective order. These take up more room, but allow you to ‘spell things out’ more clearly. Some people suggest that a closing rune at the end, such as isa or othala, will help lock in the spell. See what works for you.
Making Them
Scripts and bindrunes can be written, painted, carved, or basically anything else you want them to be. As always, go with your instincts. I’ve found that it helps me to concentrate on the rune and the power I want it to give off as I make it. I imagine the power as gold light and let it flow into the symbol. ‘Breathing life’ into them is also an idea.
